  Regaine FAQ

Q. Do you need a special shampoo while using Regaine®?

A. No, but to obtain maximum effect, through better absorption, we recommend Pregaine® shampoo. Pregaine® Shampoo is scientifically formulated to clean thinning hair, and works by very gently cleansing your scalp and hair without causing damage or impeding the absorption of Regaine®.

Q. How long after shampooing should you wait before applying Regaine®?

A. As soon as your scalp is completely dry.

Q. Is shampooing necessary before applying?

A. No.

Q. Can I continue my normal hair care routine, using conditioners, hair sprays, etc. while using Regaine®?

A. You should continue your haircare routine as normal, but choose haircare products carefully and make sure they don't interfere with the absorption of Regaine®. Pregaine® shampoo has been developed so it won't effect the absorption of Regaine®. Choose conditioners suitable to your hair type and be sure to rinse them out thoroughly. If using hair sprays, styling gels or mousse, make sure that Regaine® is completely dry before applying.

Q. Can I use a hair dryer while using Regaine®?

A. A hair dryer may be used to dry hair after shampooing, but should not be used to dry the medication as the heat will cause it to evaporate before being absorbed into the scalp, therefore Regaine® should, where possible, be allowed to dry naturally.

Q. Can I go swimming or take a shower while using Regaine®?

A. Yes, but you should wait at least two hours after applying Regaine® before getting your hair wet, so the solution has had time to dry and start working. And don't reapply Regaine® until your hair is completely dry.

Q. What are the different applicators?

A. There are three different applicators in each carton of Regaine®. These are disposable and are complimentary with each new carton of Regaine®.

applicators

Each applicator is different and is specifically designed for applying Regaine® directly to the scalp, according to the type of hair loss you have. For example, the spray applicator is suitable for larger bald patches on the scalp, the extended spray top is suitable for use under the hair, and the rub on applicator will distribute Regaine® over the scalp. (See in-pack instructions).

Each applicator is designed to deliver the correct dosage of Regaine®.

Q. How long will Regaine® last?

A. Each bottle should last for approximately 30 days, based on the recommended dose. Near the end of your monthly supply, you should renew your Regaine® before your bottle is empty.

Q. What if I miss a dose, or forget to apply Regaine® for one or two days?

A. You should try to use Regaine® twice a day, every day. If, however, you accidentally miss a dose, restart your application right away, on your usual daily schedule. Do not use twice as much Regaine® or apply it more frequently than every twelve hours. However, repeatedly missing Regaine® treatments will reduce its effectiveness.

Q. Must Regaine® be rubbed in or just applied?

A. It is strongly recommended that Regaine® is gently massaged into your scalp, using your fingers, or one of the applicators provided with the product. This will help maximise the effectiveness of Regaine®.

Q. Can Regaine® be applied to grow hair on other parts of the body, e.g. the chest?

A. As this has not been studied, the answer to the question is that it is not recommended.

Q. How long after application of Regaine® does optimum absorption take place?

A. 2 hours.

Q. What if Regaine® is accidentally spilled on the face?

A. Wash it off with soap and water.

Q. If I apply Regaine® more often than recommended will it work faster?

A. No. Your hair won't grow any faster or better if you apply it more than twice a day.

Q. How long do I have to continue using Regaine®?

A. First of all, the full effect of Regaine® may not be seen for many months. Regaine may not be suitable for you if within 12 months of starting treatment you do not see results. You will need to continue using Regaine® for as long as you want to maintain the results.

Q . Will Regaine® affect the condition of my hair?

A. It can - Regaine® helps to strengthen and thicken your existing hair. There's no evidence that it will harm your hair or cause dandruff - in fact some users find their dandruff improves with Regaine®.

Q. Will I start to grow hair on other parts of my body or my hands?

A. As your palms and fingers have no hair follicles, you won't end up with hair there. Otherwise, it's pretty unlikely, but unwanted hair growth has been reported after an accidental transfer of Regaine® from the scalp to other parts of the body. For this reason it's important you only apply Regaine® to the scalp and wash your hands thoroughly after use.

Q. Will Regaine® make my scalp more sensitive to the sun?

A. There's no evidence that this is the case, but to be safe it's a good idea to wear a hat when you're out in strong sunlight. Wait for Regaine® to dry before putting on a hat as the solution can stain fabrics.

Q. What should I do if I don't notice any improvement?

A. You should begin to see results in 3 - 4 months. In some cases it may take up to a year. If, after this time, you still have no response you should discontinue use.

Q. What should I look for as a sign that Regaine® is working?

A. After 3 - 6 months you should begin to notice that you are losing much less hair. In some cases, you'll begin to see new hair growth which may be soft, downy and colourless at first.

Q. What happens if I stop using Regaine®? Will I keep the hair I've maintained or regrown?

A. No. Reports and studies of people that have regrown hair using Regaine® have shown that if treatment with Regaine® is stopped, the user will not only lose the hair that grew back, but will most likely revert to the pattern of hair loss that was being experienced before using Regaine®. It is not the case that if you stop using Regaine® you will be worse off than if you had used nothing. You will simply revert to the way you would have been if you had not used Regaine®.

Q. Will using Regaine® change the colour or texture of my existing hair?

A. No. However, the texture will change in terms of becoming stronger and thicker.

Q. Are there any side effects?

A. The most common side effect experienced by some users of Regaine® is scalp irritation or a rash which should be mild and minor. This is caused by your scalp adjusting to the medication which it should do after a short time of continued use.

Q. Will wearing a wig while I wait for new hair growth alter the effectiveness of Regaine®?

A. It has not been determined if this affects the regrowth rate.

Q. Will Regaine® stop my hair from turning grey?

A. No.

Q. If I have had a transplant, will Regaine® offer further benefit?

A. Theoretically, adjunctive therapy using Regaine® could be beneficial, however no studies have been conducted to determine the safety and efficacy of Regaine® in this application.

Q. How does Regaine® work?

A. Regaine® contains the active ingredient Minoxidil. It is thought that Regaine® increases the supply of blood and nutrients to the hair follicles thus strengthening existing hair and stimulating secondary growth.

Q. How soon can results be expected after starting treatment with Regaine®?

A. Clinical studies of people with common hereditary hair loss have shown that if there is a response to the use of Regaine Regular Strength® , it usually occurs sometime between the fourth and sixth month after treatment has started. Some users might show a quicker response, and others may be slower to show hair growth and/or a decrease in the number of hairs lost.

People using Regaine® should have patience and not expect the use of Regaine® to solve their problems overnight!

Q. Will Regaine® work for everybody?

A. No, there are several factors that should influence the growth of hair with Regaine® or that will determine whether or not Regaine® will work for your hair loss. These factors include:

  • The length of time you have been losing your hair.

  • The specific type of hair loss condition you have.

  • The area of hair loss on your scalp.

  • Your age and physical health.

  • The predominance of hereditary hair loss in your family.

Remember best results are seen in those who have been losing hair for less than ten years.

Q. Can Regaine® be used to successfully treat Alopecia Areata?

A. Studies are ongoing to determine this, but it is not currently recommended.

Q. What are my chances of success using Regaine®?

A. Studies have shown that Regaine® works in 4 out of 5 cases. Some users will experience hair regrowth but only about half of them will consider the results cosmetically acceptable (i.e. moderate to dense regrowth).
